🐝 UK Beekeeping Law: Registration & Disease Zone Simulator

An interactive 3D map of apiaries showing BeeBase registration status, statutory notifiable-disease movement-restriction zones, and how outbreak radius changes which beekeepers are legally bound.

An interactive 3D map of apiaries showing which ones are registered on BeeBase, where a notifiable disease outbreak sits, and which apiaries fall inside the statutory movement-restriction zone drawn around it.

🔬 What It Demonstrates

Disease type sets a realistic restriction-zone radius (3km for Foulbrood, up to 10km for an exotic pest like Small Hive Beetle). Apiaries inside the zone are flagged, and unregistered ones remain invisible to BeeBase-based contact tracing even though they are still legally bound.

🎮 How to Use

Pick a disease, adjust the zone radius, apiary density and BeeBase registration rate, then toggle "highlight unregistered only" to see the inspection blind spot. Drag to rotate, scroll to zoom, and click "New outbreak" to reroll the map.

💡 Did You Know?

BeeBase registration is free and voluntary for most UK beekeepers, but it is often the only way the National Bee Unit's inspectors can trace and contact apiaries during a confirmed Foulbrood or pest incursion.
