🧪 Biology Zoology Simulation
Interactive 3D quadruped-gait simulator: switch a four-legged animal between walk, trot, canter and gallop, watch the Hildebrand footfall diagram and duty factor change, and see how the Froude number predicts when a real animal switches gait.
Four-legged animals do not simply move their legs faster to go faster — they switch between entirely different footfall patterns, or gaits, each with its own timing and mechanical strategy. This simulation animates a simplified quadruped through the four classic gaits — walk, trot, canter and gallop — driven by the same duty-factor-and-phase model zoologists use to describe real animal locomotion (Hildebrand gait diagrams), while a live Froude-number readout shows why animals from mice to horses tend to switch gait at predictable relative speeds.
This simulation explores the complexities of animal biology and zoology, allowing users to investigate animal behavior, adaptations, and ecological interactions.
