Lyrebird Sound Mimicry: Syrinx Waveform Console (2D)
2D lyrebird mimicry lab: real Web-Audio synthesis of six mimicked sounds analysed live by an AnalyserNode and drawn as a genuine oscilloscope and spectrum, with a dual-voice syrinx duet mode.
The 3D original shows a lyrebird dancing on its display mound while a stylized panel implies it is "hearing" mimicked sounds through decorative colored waves. This 2D companion builds the real mechanism behind that idea: six target sounds (kookaburra laugh, grey shrike warble, camera shutter, car alarm, chainsaw, camcorder beep) are synthesized on the fly with Web Audio oscillators and filtered noise, then fed through a live AnalyserNode whose actual time-domain and frequency-domain output — not a canned animation — is drawn as the oscilloscope trace and spectrum bars you see. A duet toggle layers a second voice a fifth above the first, illustrating the lyrebird's real biological trait of a two-branched syrinx capable of producing two independent sounds at once.
Each mimic is an additive-synthesis voice (fundamental + up to 5 harmonic overtones, set by the Clarity control) with a frequency/gain envelope per sound, plus filtered-noise bursts for percussive clicks. A single AnalyserNode (FFT size 1024) reads the mixed signal every frame; getByteTimeDomainData drives the oscilloscope and getByteFrequencyData drives the spectrum bars and the live peak-frequency readout.
