Hyrax Rock Sun Lab (2D)

2D top-down hyrax thermoregulation lab: each hyrax tracks its own body temperature, basking on sun-warmed rocks when cold and retreating to shade when overheating, with huddling for shared warmth on cold mornings.

This 2D companion models hyrax thermoregulation as a real per-agent heat-balance simulation: each hyrax tracks its own body temperature, basks on sun-warmed rocks when it drops too low, retreats to shade when it climbs too high, and huddles with neighbours to cut heat loss on cold mornings — the same behavior the 3D scene depicts, driven here by an explicit heat-exchange formula instead of a decorative flock.

⚙ Under the hood

Top-down 2D heat-balance model: each hyrax's body temperature follows dTb/dt = (Tambient − Tb)·lossRate·(1 − huddleReduction) plus a basking gain near sunlit rocks or a cooling pull toward shade, with a simple state machine (bask / shade / huddle / rest) choosing behaviour from the current temperature.
