Coati Ground Patrol Lab (2D)
A 2D coati troop-foraging simulation: a ring-tailed coati band sweeps a forest-floor clearing for fruit and insect patches, each coati steering toward the nearest patch while separation and cohesion forces keep the group from scattering permanently apart. Adjust food-patch spread and cohesion strength to see the troop's foraging radius shift.
This 2D companion drives the same troop-foraging behaviour as the 3D scene through a plain top-down canvas: a band of coatis sweeps a forest-floor clearing dotted with fruit and insect patches, each coati steering toward whichever patch is nearest while a short-range separation force keeps it from colliding with its neighbours and a longer-range cohesion force keeps it from wandering permanently away from the troop's centroid. Widening the food-patch spread forces the band to range further and thins its cohesion; raising cohesion strength pulls stragglers back in even as they forage in different directions — the same tension real coati bands manage every day between covering ground and staying safe as a group.
2D coati troop-foraging simulation combining a boids-style separation force between neighbouring coatis, a cohesion force pulling each coati toward the live troop centroid, and per-agent target-seeking toward the nearest food patch. Patches deplete on contact and regrow over time; a food-patch-spread slider changes how far patches sit from the troop's home range, and a cohesion-strength slider sets how hard the group is pulled back together.
