🧪 Optimization Process Optimization Simulation
Interactive 5-station production line: tune cycle times, buffer sizes and release rate, watch parts flow, and see Theory-of-Constraints in action -- only speeding up the bottleneck station raises total throughput.
This simulation is a working discrete-event model of a five-station production line, rendered as parts flowing through workstations and buffers in real 3D. Each station has its own cycle time and each buffer has a finite work-in-progress cap, so a slow station both starves the stations after it and blocks the ones before it — the exact dynamic that lean-manufacturing and Six Sigma process-optimization projects spend their time diagnosing. Adjust station cycle times, buffer capacity and the part-release rate, and watch the live throughput, bottleneck utilization, and Little's Law prediction respond, demonstrating the Theory of Constraints: total line throughput is capped by its single slowest station, no matter how much you speed up the rest.
This simulation showcases the process of optimizing a system or workflow, potentially illustrating concepts such as lean manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies.
