🧪 Desert Sandstorm 2D: Airborne Dust Opacity & Visibility
A 2D Stokes-settling and Beer-Lambert extinction model: tune wind speed, grain size and dust loading and watch visibility and optical depth respond in real time.
This 2D companion swaps the 3D version's orbiting dune scene for a physics readout built for the numbers: Stokes' law gives each dust grain a terminal settling velocity from its diameter, a turbulence scale tied to wind speed decides what fraction of emitted grains actually stay suspended instead of falling back to the sand, and that airborne concentration feeds a Beer–Lambert extinction coefficient which in turn sets both Koschmieder visibility distance and the optical depth across a chosen sight path — four sliders (wind speed, grain diameter, source loading, sight-path length) and a live readout panel make the whole causal chain, from grain size to how far you can see, directly adjustable.
Canvas2D dust-storm model: Stokes terminal-velocity settling, a wind-driven turbulence scale that sets the airborne fraction, and Beer–Lambert extinction feeding Koschmieder visibility and optical depth — four live controls and a numeric readout panel.
