2D Bus Bunching — Circular Route Headway Simulator
2D top-down circular-route bus bunching simulator: real passenger-accumulation-driven dwell time, so a delayed bus genuinely boards more people and falls further behind while the bus behind catches up. Toggle headway-based holding control to see the instability corrected live.
This 2D companion to the 3D Bus Bunching laboratory simulates a fleet of buses on a circular route from first principles: passengers accumulate at each stop at a real arrival rate, boarding time is computed directly from how many are actually waiting, and headway is tracked as a live time-series for every gap in the fleet. Starting from perfectly even spacing, small real-world travel-time variance is enough to trigger the same positive-feedback instability described analytically here — and headway-based holding control, derived from the route's own parameters, corrects it live.
