Steampunk Gear Train: RPM & Torque Lab (2D)
2D meshed gear-train lab: adjustable input RPM, per-gear tooth counts and mesh efficiency drive real gear-ratio and torque math through a chain of 3-6 gears, with alternating rotation direction and live RPM/torque/power readouts per gear.
This 2D companion trades the 3D version's orbiting camera for a plain-view gear train built to read the mechanics rather than admire the brass: a side panel exposes the driver's input RPM and torque, how many gears sit in the chain (3 to 6), each gear's own tooth count, and a per-mesh efficiency figure, while the canvas draws real addendum/dedendum tooth profiles — not plain circles — meshed edge to edge. Every downstream gear's speed comes straight from the classic gear-ratio law (driven RPM = driver RPM × driver teeth ÷ driven teeth) chained link by link, direction alternates at every mesh the way two external gears must, and torque is derived from power conservation across the chain (minus the modeled mesh loss), so a small driver spinning a large gear visibly slows down while its torque climbs, and vice versa — with live RPM, direction and torque readouts for every gear in the train.
