Binary-Cycle Geothermal Power Plant (ORC) Simulator
Real Organic Rankine Cycle simulator: geothermal brine drives an isobutane binary cycle through an effectiveness-rated heat exchanger, a derated turbine expansion and a pump, with live net power and thermal efficiency checked against the Carnot ceiling.
Most geothermal resources aren't hot enough to flash into steam and spin a turbine directly — they drive a binary-cycle power plant instead, where the brine's heat is handed off through a real heat exchanger to a separate low-boiling-point working fluid (isobutane) running its own closed Organic Rankine Cycle. This simulator computes that handoff with an effectiveness-NTU heat-exchanger model, expands the working fluid through a turbine using real Antoine-equation saturation pressures and an isentropic-efficiency derating, condenses it against an adjustable ambient sink, and pumps it back — reporting live net electric power and thermal efficiency that is always, genuinely, held below the Carnot ceiling set by the evaporator and condenser temperatures. Adjust brine temperature, brine flow, heat-exchanger effectiveness, turbine efficiency and cooling temperature to see how each one moves real plant output and efficiency.
Drive an isobutane Organic Rankine Cycle with geothermal brine through a real effectiveness-rated heat exchanger, turbine and pump. Watch net power and efficiency track the Carnot ceiling.
