🌙 Lunar Free-Return Trajectory Lab: Circumlunar Flyby, Three-Body Gravity and Re-entry Corridor

Fly a crew capsule from low Earth orbit around the far side of the Moon and back with one trans-lunar burn: planar restricted three-body integration (adaptive Dormand-Prince), the figure-eight free-return path, a patched-conic first guess, sensitivity to tiny burn errors with a midcourse correction, and the Earth re-entry corridor with a peak-g estimate.

⚙ Under the hood

Send a generic crew capsule from a 185 km orbit round the far side of the Moon and back with one trans-lunar burn: planar restricted three-body integration (adaptive Dormand-Prince), the free-return path solved by scan plus bisection, a patched-conic first guess compared with the numerical path, extreme sensitivity to centimetre-per-second burn errors with a midcourse correction, and the Earth re-entry corridor with a peak-g estimate. Inspired by the crewed Artemis II lunar flyby (2026); differs from the existing lunar-transfer and restricted three-body sims by solving the free-return family and the re-entry corridor end to end.
