Spacecraft Surface Temperature Map (2D)

A 2D unwrapped-hull companion: sliders for surface absorptivity, emissivity and distance from the Sun drive the same Stefan-Boltzmann radiative balance as the 3D original, painted flat as a sun-facing hot band against a shadow-side cold band.

This 2D companion unwraps the spacecraft hull into a flat strip and solves the same Stefan-Boltzmann radiative balance as the 3D original for every column independently — no air, no convection, just sunlight in and infrared heat out. Drag the absorptivity and emissivity sliders to see why a bright white coating runs cooler than black anodizing, push the distance slider out toward Jupiter to watch the whole strip go cold, and switch on the barbecue roll to see a slow spin smear the sun-facing hot band and shadow-side cold band into one moderate average — the exact trick real crewed spacecraft use to protect their hulls.
