Sample Return Capsule: Hyperbolic Reentry (2D)

2D side-view companion to the hyperbolic reentry simulator: fly an asteroid sample-return capsule through direct atmospheric entry at 12.4 km/s and watch the deceleration, heating and downrange trajectory unfold against a ground-track view.

A 2D side-view companion to the 3D globe model: the same point-mass entry dynamics (exponential atmosphere, drag, inverse-square gravity, Sutton–Graves heating) drawn as a ground-track trajectory instead of a rotating globe. Asteroid sample-return missions like Hayabusa2 and OSIRIS-REx never stop to orbit Earth before landing — the capsule is released on a hyperbolic approach and slams into the atmosphere directly at around 12.4 km/s, far faster than a capsule coming home from low Earth orbit. Pick an entry angle inside the survivable corridor, choose a heavy or light capsule, dial in a release offset, and watch velocity, altitude, deceleration and heat flux evolve in real time as drogue and main parachutes deploy — while trying to land inside the recovery ellipse without skipping back into space or exceeding the capsule's structural g-limit.
