Space Mining: Autopilot Navigation & Ore Extraction (2D)

A top-down 2D mining lab built around a real extraction loop rather than the 3D original's decorative rotation: a ship autopilots to the nearest or richest live asteroid, drills ore at a rate that scales with drill power and divides by each rock's hardness, burns fuel on both thrust and drilling, and returns to base to sell cargo and refuel once its hold is full.

The 3D original ties its sliders to cosmetic rotation speeds and a linear counter that climbs regardless of what the ship is doing, so this 2D companion swaps that decoration for a real extraction loop: an autopiloted ship seeks out the nearest or richest asteroid still holding ore, drills at a rate equal to drill power divided by that rock's hardness, drains fuel in proportion to the thrust it burns getting there and to the power it spends drilling, and only converts cargo into credits once it has flown back and docked at base. Click any asteroid to override the autopilot and send the ship there directly — useful for comparing a soft, fast-draining rock against a hard one with a much bigger payout per trip.

⚙ Under the hood

2D top-down space-mining lab: seek-and-arrive autopilot, drill rate = drill power ÷ hardness, fuel cost proportional to thrust and drill power, and a sell/refuel cycle at base — a real resource loop substituted for the 3D original's decorative rotation and fake linear-progress sliders.
