Space Debris Orbital Dynamics (2D)

2D Kepler-propagated debris field: objects orbit Earth on exact elliptical trajectories, collide when their paths cross, and fragment into new debris — a live model of the Kessler-syndrome collision cascade.

This 2D companion replaces the 3D version's decorative orbiting mesh with a real two-body Kepler propagator: every fragment follows an exact elliptical orbit (mean motion from Kepler's third law, position from Kepler's equation solved every frame — no drift, no numerical integration error), so nothing on screen is faked. Objects that pass close enough are destroyed and reborn as new fragments with perturbed orbital elements, the same feedback loop behind Kessler syndrome, while a live readout tracks population, cumulative collisions, mean altitude and mean orbital speed as the cascade unfolds. Switch the altitude band between LEO, MEO, GEO or a mixed population to see how orbital regime changes the collision dynamics.
