Solar System Planetary Motion (2D)

A top-down Canvas2D orrery of the eight planets orbiting the Sun: pan and zoom the scene, click any body to read its distance, year length and day length, speed time up to 10×, and toggle orbit rings, the asteroid belt and motion trails.

This 2D companion renders the same eight-planet orbital model as the 3D version — matched orbital radii and relative angular speeds — as a flat, top-down orrery instead of a navigable 3D scene. A drag-to-pan, scroll-to-zoom camera replaces orbit controls, clicking a planet (or the Sun) opens the same distance/year/day readout the 3D version shows, and an optional trail mode traces each planet's path over several orbits so the different periods of the inner and outer planets are visible at a glance without needing to rotate a camera around them.

⚙ Under the hood

2D top-down orrery: eight planets on circular orbits at simplified relative angular speeds, a pannable/zoomable camera, click-to-select info panel, adjustable time scale, and toggleable orbit rings, asteroid belt and trails.
