Hot Jupiter Roche-Lobe Escape Map (2D)
2D restricted-three-body Roche potential and mass-loss parameter map for a hot Jupiter: watch gas cross the L1 saddle point into stellar gravity while the energy-limited mass-loss rate is charted across orbital distance and planet mass.
A 2D companion to the 3D hot-Jupiter atmospheric-escape simulation. Rather than a flattened orbit view, it plots the restricted three-body effective potential along the star–planet axis, showing the L1 saddle point that sets the Roche lobe, alongside a parameter-space heatmap of the energy-limited mass-loss rate across orbital distance and planet mass. Escaping gas parcels are integrated directly against the potential's slope, and the numerically located L1 point is checked live against the closed-form Roche-radius formula used to compute the tidal enhancement factor.
