Exoplanet Population Map 2D: Mass-Radius Classifier

Interactive 2D exoplanet classifier: tune mass, radius and orbital distance to plot a hypothetical planet against a synthetic population of roughly 370 confirmed-exoplanet-like worlds on a live logarithmic mass-radius diagram, including the real "radius valley" gap between super-Earths and mini-Neptunes.

This 2D companion drives the same physics as the 3D exoplanet classifier — bulk density computed as mass divided by radius cubed, and the same threshold rules astronomers use to sort worlds into terrestrials, super-Earths, mini-Neptunes, ice giants, gas giants and hot Jupiters — but replaces the rendered sphere with a live population map. A synthetic set of roughly 370 planets, seeded to mirror the real Kepler/TESS mass-radius distribution (a rocky pile-up near Earth's size, a thin "radius valley" gap around 1.5-2 Earth radii, a mini-Neptune bump above it, and a long gas-giant tail), sits in the background so your planet's point never floats in isolation. Move the sliders to reshape your planet and watch it settle among its real-world analogues, then check the nearest-neighbour readout to see which corner of the diagram it lands closest to.

⚙ Under the hood

2D exoplanet mass-radius classifier with density-based type rules identical to the 3D pair, plus a synthetic ~370-planet population overlay mirroring the real radius-valley distribution, and live density, surface gravity, equilibrium temperature and nearest-neighbour readouts.
