PhD Mentor-Tree Belief Drift Simulator

Watch a methodological stance propagate down a PhD advisor's mentor tree: every candidate inherits their advisor's stance, with a small independent chance of drift at each generation. Tune tree depth, branching factor and drift rate and watch belief variance widen from root to leaves.

This simulator grows a strict mentor tree of PhD candidates: one root advisor, each with some number of students, each of whom eventually advises their own students, generation after generation. Every candidate inherits their advisor's methodological stance almost exactly, except for a small independent chance of drift at each hop — a tiny random deviation that never gets corrected back toward the root. Tune the tree's depth and branching factor, and the drift rate per hop, then watch the per-generation belief distribution widen from a single point at the root into a broad spread by the final generation — a direct visualization of how methodological "schools" fragment across academic pedigrees purely from independent, uncoordinated drift.
