📈 Social Mobility — Markov Chain Income Quintiles (2D)

A Canvas2D Markov-chain lab of intergenerational social mobility across five income quintiles. Adjust the transition matrix's stickiness and watch the population converge to a live-computed stationary distribution.

This 2D companion drives the exact same Markov-chain model as the 3D version through a plain Canvas2D view built for reading the numbers rather than orbiting a scene: five quintile bands run down the left, households resample their quintile each generation according to a row-stochastic transition matrix and animate toward their new band, and a histogram on the right compares the live population split against the stationary distribution — computed by power iteration on the current matrix — as white tick marks overlaid on colored bars, alongside a live readout of generation count, distribution error, and the expected number of generations for a household starting in the bottom quintile to escape it.

⚙ Under the hood
