Asteroid Mining Drones — Top-Down Fleet State Machine (2D)
2D top-down companion to the 3D Asteroid Mining Drones: a fleet of autonomous drones runs the same approach‑mine‑haul‑dock finite-state cycle over an irregular, rotating asteroid outline, spawning additive ejecta bursts as they extract material and hauling it to a collector ship, with a live readout of fleet state and cumulative loads delivered.
This is the 2D companion to the orbiting 3D Asteroid Mining Drones scene, redrawn as a plan view so the fleet's coordination is legible at a glance rather than inferred from camera angle. Each drone still runs the same four-state cycle as the original — fly to an assigned point on the asteroid's surface, mine it in a burst of additive ejecta particles, haul the extracted material back to the collector ship, then dock and unload before picking a fresh target — but here the asteroid is a single rotating irregular outline built from interpolated radii rather than a full 3D mesh, and every drone leaves a short fading trail so its current leg of the cycle is visible without needing to track an individual craft. A live counter tallies loads delivered and breaks the fleet down by state (mining / in transit / docked) in real time, turning the swarm's throughput into a number you can watch respond as you scale the fleet size or intensity sliders.
