Acoustic Levitation: The Floating Skull (2D)
2D side-view companion: a real standing acoustic wave column between an emitter and reflector, color-mapped by instantaneous pressure and overlaid with the cos(ky) envelope, traps a small skull at a pressure node. Drag to pan, scroll to zoom, drag the skull to displace it from its trap.
The same real ultrasonic-levitation physics as the 3D version — a resonant standing wave between an emitter and reflector trapping a small object at a pressure node via acoustic radiation force — rendered here as a 2D side-view instrument panel instead of a 3D scene. A live red/blue heat-map shows the instantaneous pressure field, a traced envelope curve shows the cos(ky) amplitude profile, and a numeric readout reports the exact pressure the levitated skull feels at its current height, all computed from the same λ = c/f and radiation-force relations. Pan and zoom to inspect the field, or drag the skull off its node and watch it get pulled back — or fall, if the drive is too weak to support it.
2D side-view of the same real standing-wave acoustic trap: a live pressure heat-map and cos(ky) envelope curve show a skull held at a pressure node between an emitter and reflector.
