🗳️ 3D Political Opinion Dynamics — Persuasion & Social Norms
A bounded-confidence opinion-dynamics model in 3D: agents wander through space, persuade nearby like-minded neighbors, and feel a social-norm pull.
Each agent carries a single opinion value on a left↔right axis from −1 to +1 and drifts through a bounded 3D volume. Whenever two agents come within interaction range, they only influence each other if their opinions already lie within a confidence threshold ε of one another — this is the classic Deffuant–Weisbuch bounded-confidence rule: people persuade those they already roughly agree with, not their opposites. When that test passes, both opinions move toward each other at a rate set by the persuasion strength μ. A separate, constant social-norm pull k tugs every opinion gently toward the neutral center (0) regardless of neighbors, modeling the ambient pressure of shared institutions and media. The live readout tracks the population's mean opinion, its standard deviation (a polarization index), and a cluster count computed from gaps in the sorted opinion distribution — so you can watch the same three numbers produce consensus (one cluster), a two-pole split, or lasting fragmentation.
This is the 3D companion to the 2D Political Science Political Behavior Simulation. The 2D original was a static placeholder page with no working simulation; this 3D build implements the real bounded-confidence opinion-dynamics mechanic the title and description describe, using genuine Three.js WebGL rendering.
