Foucault Pendulum (2D Top-Down)

A top-down 2D companion to the 3D Foucault pendulum: the swing plane stays fixed while the compass floor turns beneath it at the real Earth-rotation precession rate.

This 2D companion keeps the same physics as the 3D original: a pendulum bob swings in a plane that stays fixed in inertial space, while the floor beneath it — drawn here as a compass disc seen from directly above — turns at the real Foucault precession rate ω = ΩEarth·sin(latitude). Drag the Latitude slider toward the poles to see the floor spin faster under the fixed swing plane, or toward the equator to watch the precession vanish entirely.

⚙ Under the hood

SHM pendulum (θ(t) = θ₀·cos(ωt)) swinging in a fixed world-space plane; the floor's rotation rate is the literal Coriolis-derived Foucault formula, not an arbitrary speed slider, with a Time scale control to make the very slow real rate visible.
