Buoyancy Tank (2D)
A 2D side-view companion to the 3D buoyancy tank: drag the sliders for object density, object volume and fluid density and watch it settle at the exact depth Archimedes' principle predicts, with a live buoyant-force vs. weight readout.
Drop an object into a tank of fluid and Archimedes' principle decides its fate: the fluid pushes back with a buoyant force equal to the weight of the fluid the object displaces, Fb = ρfluid·Vsubmerged·g, while gravity pulls down with the object's own weight, mg = ρobj·V·g. This 2D side-view companion lets you dial in the object's density and volume alongside the fluid's density — water, oil, or something as dense as mercury — and watch the object settle at the exact depth where those two forces balance, with a live readout of weight, buoyant force, submerged fraction and displaced volume. An object less dense than the fluid floats with only part of itself submerged; one denser than the fluid never displaces enough to balance its weight and sinks straight to the tank floor, exactly as the site's interactive 3D version of this buoyancy tank shows.
