Virtual Classroom Latency Simulator (2D)

Top-down 2D M/M/1/K queueing simulator: watch a virtual classroom's synchronous session degrade as class size and interaction rate grow, with a live scrolling queue/latency chart plus queue length, latency and packet-loss readouts against queueing theory. Drag to pan, scroll to zoom.

A synchronous virtual classroom lives or dies on network queueing, not bandwidth alone. Every student's audio, video and chat stream generates packets that funnel through one server link; this simulator models that link as a finite-buffer M/M/1/K queue and renders it top-down in 2D — students around a ring firing packets at a central hub, packets queueing as glowing markers when the server falls behind, and turning red when the jitter buffer overflows and a frame is dropped. A scrolling strip beneath the map tracks measured queue length against the theoretical mean in real time. Push the class size and per-student chattiness up, or the server capacity and buffer size down, and watch queue length, latency and packet loss climb exactly as the closed-form M/M/1/K formulas predict — a concrete, testable version of the "responsiveness degrades as load increases" claim behind every real video-conferencing classroom.
