Orangutan Canopy Route Planning (2D)

A top-down canopy graph: fruit trees are nodes, branch connections are edges, and each orangutan scores every reachable route on distance, branch sway and how well the troop already knows it before choosing where to swing next.

This 2D companion turns the canopy into an explicit route graph instead of a scene to walk through: fruit trees are nodes, branch connections between nearby trees are edges, and every orangutan at a tree scores each reachable edge on raw distance, how much the branch sways (driven by the canopy-instability slider) and how well-travelled that route already is (driven by the spatial-memory slider), then greedily takes the lowest-cost edge — occasionally exploring instead, so the troop still discovers new shortcuts. Edges brighten gold as the troop learns them, energy drains faster on swaying branches and refills at each fruit tree reached, and the live readout tracks total trees visited, average energy and total distance covered, making the same route-planning trade-off the 3D scene shows directly legible as a graph.

⚙ Under the hood

2D top-down canopy-graph lab: orangutans forage between fruit trees along a branch network, weighing route distance against canopy instability and troop spatial memory of past routes.
