🧪 Peatland Carbon Cycle (2D)
2D cross-section model of a peat bog: water-table depth splits the profile into an aerobic CO2 zone and anaerobic CH4 zone, with a live Q10 decomposition and net carbon balance readout.
This 2D companion turns the 3D peatland's abstract particle cloud into a real cross-section: the water-table slider physically divides a 60 cm peat column into an aerobic zone above (releasing CO2) and an anaerobic zone below (producing CH4), each decomposing at a genuine Q10 temperature-dependent rate, while photosynthesis peaks at a moisture optimum rather than scaling with a single generic "activity" number.
Water-table depth sets the oxic/anoxic split of a fixed peat column; each zone decomposes via a Q10 temperature response, methane produced below the water line is partly re-oxidised crossing back through the oxic zone, and NPP follows a moisture-optimum curve — together driving a live net ecosystem carbon balance (NECB).
