DNA Hybridization Biosensor
Interactive DNA-hybridization biosensor: watch labeled target strands dock onto immobilized capture probes on a sensor surface, and tune stringency (temperature), probe density and mismatch count to see the tradeoff between signal sensitivity and specificity.
DNA biosensors work by hybridization: a single-stranded capture probe on the sensor surface pairs up with a complementary target strand through base-specific hydrogen bonding. This simulator visualizes that process on a 3D sensor surface — a stream of labeled target strands (some perfectly complementary, some carrying mismatches) flows past a field of immobilized probes, and each collision either forms a stable duplex or breaks apart, depending on how many mismatches the pair has and how strict the stringency (temperature) is set. Adjust stringency temperature, probe density, the mismatched-target fraction and target concentration to see how sensitivity (total bound signal) trades off against specificity (the ratio of true to false signal) — the central design tension in every real DNA-hybridization assay.
