Tobacco Tax Policy Simulator

Interactive 3D population model: raise cigarette excise tax, fund cessation programs and restrict advertising, and watch a 1,500-person population cloud shift between smoker and non-smoker over simulated years, driven by a real price-elasticity stock-and-flow model.

Public-health policy rarely acts on one lever at a time — cigarette taxes, cessation-program funding and advertising restrictions all push on smoking prevalence through different channels. This simulator renders a 1,500-person synthetic population as a rotating 3D cloud of spheres, colors each red (smoker) or blue (non-smoker) according to a live prevalence value P(t), and evolves P(t) forward through a real stock-and-flow model: initiation and cessation rates that respond to the excise tax rate, cessation-program funding and advertising exposure sliders exactly as the published price-elasticity literature describes. Watch the population visibly shift toward a new equilibrium as you raise the tax, fund cessation programs, or dial back tobacco marketing — and read the underlying formulas in "How it works".

⚙ Under the hood

Raise the cigarette excise tax, fund cessation programs and restrict advertising, then watch a 1,500-person 3D population cloud shift between smoker and non-smoker as a real price-elasticity stock-and-flow model evolves prevalence over simulated years.
