A 3D Patient Journey Through Medical Cannabis Certification

This companion turns the certification pathway into a 3D pipeline you can orbit and zoom: five stations — Patient, Physician, Registry, ID Card and Dispensary — sit along a curved tube in space, and small glowing spheres representing individual patients travel the tube in real time, changing color as they clear each checkpoint.

  • ~15–25: Qualifying conditions recognized by a typical U.S. state program
  • 38+: U.S. states running some form of medical cannabis program
  • 2–4 weeks: Common registry processing time once an application is submitted
  • ~1 year: Typical validity period for a medical registry ID card before renewal

What counts as qualifying

Programs commonly recognize conditions such as chronic pain, epilepsy, cancer and PTSD; exact lists vary widely by state, which is why the "Qualifying Condition" control can block the whole pathway when toggled off.

Certification, not prescription

Because cannabis remains federally unscheduled for prescribing, a licensed physician issues a certification rather than a prescription — a legal distinction that shapes the whole pathway that follows.

Key insight: incomplete paperwork at the registry stage is the most common source of delay, which is why the Registry Rejection Rate control sends a visible fraction of patient tokens back for resubmission instead of assuming every application sails through on the first try.

From ID card to dispensary

Once the state issues the ID card — typically by mail or as a digital copy — patients gain legal purchase rights at licensed dispensaries, usually with higher possession limits and reduced or exempt tax versus recreational buyers.
