Chain Polymerization: Free-Radical Kinetics & Molecular Weight Distribution (2D)
2D chain-growth polymerization lab: a stochastic kinetic simulation of initiation, propagation, chain transfer and termination, tracking the Mayo equation, kinetic chain length and a live molecular-weight distribution against the theoretical curve.
This 2D companion runs the real free-radical chain-growth rate laws as a stochastic kinetic simulation instead of a static scene: initiator decomposes and spawns radical chains, each chain propagates by adding monomer units at a rate set by the monomer concentration, chain-transfer events truncate a chain early per the Mayo equation, and pairs of radicals terminate by combination or disproportionation depending on the selected mode — with a live molecular-weight-distribution histogram checked against the theoretical Flory most-probable curve so the simulated Đ and Xn can be verified against the textbook equations in real time.
