🧪 Waste Management Recycling Simulation
Interactive 3D simulation of float-sink density separation used at real recycling facilities: drop a mixed stream of PET, HDPE, PP, PVC and PS flakes into a water tank and watch Archimedes' principle sort them by density into floating and sinking fractions.
This simulation shows how a real recycling facility separates a mixed stream of plastic flakes — PET, HDPE, PP, PVC and PS — using nothing but Archimedes' principle. Flakes of each resin fall into a 3D water tank with their true relative densities; the fluid's own density is adjustable, so raising or lowering it shifts which resins float and which sink, exactly as plants do by dosing the bath with salt to pull additional resins out one tank at a time. Live purity and throughput readouts track how clean each output fraction is as the feed rate and fluid density change, illustrating why float-sink separation is a cornerstone step in mechanical plastics recycling before any material is transformed into new products.
This simulation explores the recycling process, showing how materials like plastic, paper, and metal are collected, sorted, and transformed into new products. It emphasizes the role of recycling in resource conservation.
