Temperature-Swing CO₂ Capture Column
Interactive 3D temperature-swing adsorption simulator: watch a solid-sorbent packed bed load CO2 from flue gas during a cool adsorption phase and release it as a concentrated stream when heated, driven by a real Langmuir isotherm and a linear-driving-force mass-transfer model.
This simulator models a real temperature-swing adsorption (TSA) process for capturing carbon dioxide from industrial flue gas using a solid sorbent bed. A packed column is discretized into slices, each tracking gas-phase CO₂ concentration and solid-phase loading through a Langmuir adsorption isotherm with temperature-dependent (van't Hoff) equilibrium and linear-driving-force mass transfer. Toggle between the cool Adsorption phase, where CO₂ loads onto the sorbent as flue gas flows through, and the heated Regeneration phase, where the same physics runs in reverse and releases a concentrated CO₂ stream — while adjusting inlet concentration, gas velocity and regeneration temperature and watching capture efficiency, outlet concentration and cumulative CO₂ captured update live.
This simulation allows users to explore the complex process of capturing carbon dioxide from industrial sources using advanced materials and technologies. By manipulating parameters like temperature, pressure, and fluid flow, you can observe how different capture methods impact efficiency and effectiveness.
