Stress-Strain Curve (2D)
2D Canvas tensile-test simulator: pull five engineering materials — steel, aluminium, rubber, bone and polymer — through Hooke's-law elasticity and power-law hardening plasticity, watch the specimen neck and fracture, and track yield, UTS and toughness live.
This 2D companion draws the same tensile-test physics as the 3D version on a flat Canvas plot: the elastic region follows Hooke's law (σ = E·ε), the plastic region uses a power-law hardening model fitted between the yield point and the ultimate tensile strength, and a schematic specimen bar necks and fractures alongside the curve as the applied strain crosses each phase boundary. Five material presets — steel, aluminium, rubber, bone and polymer — can be overlaid on the same axes so their stiffness and ductility differences are visible at a glance, and the shaded area under the active curve reports toughness (energy absorbed per unit volume) as the strain is dragged or auto-tested to fracture.
Hooke's-law elastic region (σ = E·ε) transitioning to power-law plastic hardening (σ = σ_y + K·ε_p^n) fitted to reach the UTS at the fracture strain, with a live specimen animation and running toughness integral.
