🔹 Liquid Crystal Molecule Orientation Simulator (2D)

2D nematic liquid-crystal director-field simulation: a grid of rod-like molecules reorients above a real Fréedericksz threshold voltage, switching light transmission through crossed polarizers exactly as an LCD pixel does. Adjust applied voltage, threshold voltage and molecule density.

A 2D grid of rod-shaped liquid-crystal molecules reorients under an applied voltage, exactly as in an LCD pixel. Above the real Fréedericksz threshold voltage, the electric torque overcomes the elastic (Frank) restoring torque and the director field tilts from planar to homeotropic, dimming light transmitted through crossed polarizers. Adjust the applied voltage, threshold voltage, and molecule density live.
