Ferrofluid Spikes: 2D Height-Field Simulation

2D top-down companion to the ferrofluid spikes lab: the same orbiting-magnet field math rendered as a shaded height field, with live spike-sharpness and field-strength controls.

This 2D companion runs the same orbiting-magnet field equations as the 3D ferrofluid lab, but reads the result as a shaded top-down height field instead of a rendered mesh: brightness marks surface height and a slope-shading pass fakes the raised look of a spike without any 3D geometry, so the underlying Gaussian field math is easier to inspect directly.

⚙ Under the hood

Three orbiting magnet sources drive a Gaussian-falloff height field over a 96×96 grid; a spike-sharpness slider exposes the falloff exponent that the 3D version keeps fixed.
