H2-DRI Shaft Furnace — 2D Kinetics Cutaway

Interactive 2D cutaway of a hydrogen direct-reduction (H2-DRI) shaft furnace: watch hematite pellets reduce to metallic iron as they sink through counter-current H2 gas, tune temperature, H2 purity and feed rate, drag to tilt the view, and read a live conversion-vs-depth profile plus the Arrhenius rate curve.

This is a 2D cutaway companion to the 3D H2-DRI shaft furnace simulator: hematite pellets enter at the top, sink through a counter-current stream of hot hydrogen gas, and leave the bottom as metallic sponge iron. Each pellet's reduction fraction is tracked with the same Arrhenius-scaled first-order kinetic model driven by furnace temperature and hydrogen purity, and its colour interpolates live from rust-brown oxide to pale metallic iron as it converts. Drag the furnace view to tilt it and see the pellet bed from a different angle, watch the live conversion-vs-depth profile and Arrhenius rate curve update as you tune the controls, and compare the process's CO₂ footprint against the traditional coke blast furnace it is designed to replace.
