Möbius Strip Unrolled (2D)

Interactive 2D unrolled Möbius-strip diagram: send an ant along a strip with 0, 1 or 2 half-twists and watch it flip to the 'other side' after one loop for odd twist counts, proving the surface has just one side and one edge.

This 2D companion to the 3D Möbius strip unrolls the surface into a flat strip and sends an ant crawling along it at a fixed offset from the centerline. Choose 0, 1 or 2 half-twists to compare an ordinary closed band against a true Möbius strip: with an odd twist count the ant visibly flips to the "other side" after a single loop and needs a second lap to return to its exact start, while an even twist count (including zero) always brings it back to the same face after one loop. The live readouts track loops completed, current face, and whether the chosen twist count is orientable or not.

⚙ Under the hood

An unrolled 2D diagram of a Möbius strip where an ant crawls along the surface and flips to the other side after one loop, letting you compare 0, 1 and 2 half-twists to see orientable versus non-orientable bands.
