🧬 Advanced Bee Breeding: Selection, Insemination & Conservation
Run a virtual queen-breeding station: score a drone pool on a weighted selection index, instrumentally inseminate a queen with chosen drone semen, and bank surplus genetic diversity in a cryopreservation vault.
A virtual queen-breeding station: a pool of colour-coded drones is ranked by a weighted selection index, the top scorer is instrumentally inseminated into a queen, and surplus genetics are cryopreserved in a gene bank vault.
🔬 What It Demonstrates
Drone genotype is visualised as an RGB colour (honey yield / Varroa resistance / gentleness); the breeding station glows brightest around the top-ranked candidate and instrumentally delivers its genetics to the queen, exactly as a real breeding programme selects and inseminates.
🎮 How to Use
Pick a selection-index trait, set pool size and inbreeding coefficient, and watch ranking, offspring colour blending and gene-bank vials respond. Toggle instrumental insemination and the cryo vault on or off.
💡 Did You Know?
Modern honeybee gene banks cryopreserve drone semen in liquid nitrogen at around −196°C, letting breeders reintroduce genetics from rare or endangered subspecies decades after the original colony has died.
