Chess Animated: Random Hop Board (2D)
A flat top-down chessboard where a random piece hops to a random empty square on a timer — tune the hop interval, arc height, hop duration and starting piece density, and read a live move counter and occupancy readout.
This 2D companion keeps the same timer-driven mechanic as the 3D version — a full occupancy grid tracks every square, and once every few seconds a random occupied piece hops to a random empty square — but renders it as a flat top-down board so the mechanic itself is the whole picture instead of camera framing. Four real controls sit alongside the board: the move interval, the hop duration, the arc height of the hop, and the starting piece density (how many of the standard 32 pieces are placed before the first move), plus a live readout for moves made, elapsed time, empty squares and the piece currently in flight. Lowering the density slider clears squares fast, which visibly speeds up how often a hop finds a nearby empty target — a small, honest illustration of how occupancy density constrains a random search.
An 8×8 occupancy array drives a timer that repeatedly sends a random piece to a random empty square; the hop itself lerps x/y linearly between the two squares while height follows height·sin(π·progress), landing exactly on the target square at completion.
