Kite Surfing Ocean Crossing (2D)

A real apparent-wind kite-traction model: trim the bar, steer the kite through its wind window and choose a course angle, and watch lift, drag and Newton's second law decide your board speed and upwind angle in real time.

The 3D original is a scenic flythrough — a rider and kite follow a fixed scripted path over a displaced-wave ocean, with only an orbiting camera under your control. This 2D companion replaces the decoration with the real mechanic the title promises: a kite-traction force computed from dynamic pressure on the apparent wind (the vector sum of true wind and the board's own velocity), resolved against your chosen course to give a forward driving force, opposed by quadratic water drag, and integrated frame by frame with Newton's second law. Trimming the bar changes the kite's lift coefficient, steering it through the wind window changes both power and pull angle, and picking a course angle trades speed for how close to the wind you can point — exactly the trade-off real kitesurfers make.

⚙ Under the hood

2D kite-surfing lab: real apparent-wind vector composition, a lift/drag traction-kite model and quadratic water drag drive the board — trim the bar, steer the kite window and pick a course to find top speed and best upwind angle.
