2D Water Marbling (Ebru): Marangoni Paint Spreading

Interactive 2D ebru / water-marbling simulator: paint drops of lower surface tension than water spread outward across the surface via the Marangoni effect, thinning into colored film, while a comb tool advects the paint-color field along its drag velocity to draw traditional swirled ebru patterns.

A 2D top-down companion to the 3D water-marbling simulator, built on the real mechanism behind ebru art: paint with a surface tension lower than water spreads outward across the tray via the Marangoni effect, its front slowing as drag from the thinning film grows with wetted area. Drop several colours to watch their expanding fronts push each other into concentric rings, then switch to the comb and drag through the tray — the tool advects the whole paint-colour field along its motion, folding the rings into traditional swirled ebru patterns.

⚙ Under the hood

Drop inks of lower surface tension than water onto a tray and watch the Marangoni effect spread them into thinning colored film; each new front physically displaces older paint into concentric rings, and a comb tool advects the whole paint-color field along its drag to draw traditional swirled ebru patterns.
