Tornado Vortex Dynamics Simulator (2D)
Interactive 2D tornado vortex simulator: a Rankine-vortex wind profile with a solid-body core and 1/r outer decay, Bernoulli-derived core pressure drop driving a condensation funnel, and debris tracers that spiral inward and are flung back out past the core. Adjust intensity to see an EF-scale-like range.
This 2D simulator renders a tornado as a Rankine vortex seen from above: solid-body rotation inside the core radius, 1/r irrotational decay outside it, and a Bernoulli-derived pressure drop — deepest at dead center — that condenses the visible funnel cloud once it crosses a dew-point threshold. Debris tracers spiral inward on near-surface convergence and get flung back outward past the core, the same path real debris follows. Drag the intensity slider through an EF-scale-like range to watch the core radius, peak wind speed, pressure drop and funnel width all respond together.
