Catastrophe Bond Waterfall & Basis Risk — 2D Companion

Parametric climate insurance and catastrophe bonds don't pay out because an adjuster inspected the damage — they pay out because a modeled hazard index crossed a pre-agreed threshold. This 2D companion to the 3D cat-bond simulator renders the same waterfall mechanic as a flat 10×10 grid of principal blocks between an attachment line and an exhaustion line, then plays a stochastic hazard event through it: the modeled loss index rises and falls like a storm intensifying and weakening, blocks erode bottom-up the moment the index crosses attachment, and a second, independently-wandering "actual insured loss" curve shows how far real-world damage can drift from the index that actually decides the payout. Unlike the 3D version's fixed camera orbit, this view adds a genuinely 2D-native interaction: drag the time-series strip to pan through a finished event and scroll or pinch to zoom the time axis, so you can inspect exactly where the index crossed attachment and how wide the basis-risk gap opened at that instant.
