A wax comb rises cell by cell as worker bees add soft, warm wax at the growing edge — no foreman, no blueprint, just packed hexagonal tubes settling into the most efficient shape a plane can be tiled with.
🔬 What It Demonstrates
Freshly built wax starts as a rough circular tube; kept near 35 °C it is pliable enough that tightly packed neighbouring tubes flatten against each other into hexagons. Two standard cell sizes serve two purposes, and different zones of the same comb hold brood, pollen and honey.
🎮 How to Use
Choose worker or drone cell size, drag wax pliability to watch tubes morph from circles into hexagons, set a growth speed to watch the comb spread outward, and switch zone patterns to see how a real hive organises brood, pollen and honey.
💡 Did You Know?
Producing wax costs a colony roughly six to eight times as much honey by weight — the hexagon is the shape that gets the most storage volume out of every gram of that hard-won wax.
