🐝 Bee Colony Welfare Lab
A 3D hive-inspection lab where handling speed, smoke use, ambient temperature and inspection frequency drive a live colony stress response and welfare score.
A 3D hive whose bees scatter, cluster or calm down in real time as you change how an inspection is carried out — turning inspection protocol choices into a visible, measurable colony stress response.
🔬 What It Demonstrates
Handling speed, smoker use, ambient temperature and inspection frequency combine into a live alarm/stress level and a slower-moving colony welfare score, mirroring how real inspection protocols are designed to minimise cumulative stress.
🎮 How to Use
Set handling speed, temperature and weekly inspection frequency, toggle the smoker, then click "Open hive & inspect" and watch the bees scatter and the stress meter respond. Close the hive to see recovery.
💡 Did You Know?
Alarm pheromone (isopentyl acetate) released by guard bees can linger for minutes after a rough inspection, which is why experienced beekeepers work slowly and keep a lit smoker ready before opening a hive.
