Photoelectrochemical Cell: Depth-Profile Carrier Collection (2D)

Interactive 2D depth-profile view of a photoelectrochemical (PEC) cell: watch photon absorption, band bending and electron-hole collection unfold across the semiconductor's depletion layer via the Mott-Schottky and Gartner relations.

This is the same Mott-Schottky / Gärtner photoelectrochemistry as the 3D cell, redrawn as a 2D depth-resolved cross-section instead of a tank view: a horizontal axis running from the illuminated surface into the semiconductor bulk carries a live band-bending curve, a Beer-Lambert photon-absorption profile, and individual electron-hole pairs that are sampled, separated or recombined according to whether they land inside the computed depletion width. Choosing a photoanode material, applied bias, illumination and donor density drives the same real depletion-width and collected-photocurrent formulas, which in turn set the pace of the H₂ and O₂ collection columns on either side.
