🧪 Summative Assessment Simulation
Interactive summative-assessment simulator: build a test from item-response-theory parameters, sample a student cohort, and watch pass/fail decisions form live as you move the cut score, item difficulty and discrimination — with reliability and classification-accuracy readouts.
Summative assessment is the decision a test makes at the end of a unit — pass or fail, mastery or not, which grade band — and that decision is only as good as the test items behind it. This simulator builds a test bank from item-response-theory parameters (difficulty, discrimination, a fixed guessing floor), samples a 150-student cohort from a normal ability distribution, and simulates every student answering every item as an independent trial at their item-specific probability of success. Move the cut score, item difficulty or discrimination and watch the pass/fail split, mean score, KR-20 reliability, standard error of measurement and classification accuracy update live in a 3D scatter where each student's position is their ability and their height is their raw score.
This simulation demonstrates summative assessment – a method of evaluating student learning at the end of an instructional unit or course. It illustrates how assessments are used to determine overall mastery and assign grades.
