🧪 Ecology Advanced Ecosystem Restoration Simulation
Restore a fragmented landscape: build wildlife corridors, expand patch area and reintroduce keystone species, and watch a metapopulation biodiversity index recover under a real island-biogeography colonization-extinction model.
Real ecosystem restoration is a landscape-scale problem: a single replanted patch does little if it stays isolated. This simulator models 16 habitat patches as a metapopulation under the MacArthur–Wilson colonization–extinction framework, and lets you apply three concrete restoration techniques — building wildlife corridors between patches, expanding patch area, and actively reintroducing keystone species — while watching a live biodiversity-recovery index respond. A disturbance-event control lets you test how resilient the restored landscape has become against fire, logging or drought compared to its original fragmented state.
This simulation allows users to experiment with different ecosystem restoration techniques and their impact on biodiversity recovery. It focuses on ecological processes.
